Somehow Donald Trump’s and Hillary Clinton’s race to the White House has managed to become more bizarre than it already is. Who knew that a Miss Universe winner and her sex tape would be the center of attention in the 2016 presidential election.
If you didn’t watch the super informative first presidential debate, then you might have missed out on Hillary Clinton’s remark when she name-dropped Venezuelan Alicia Machado who was crowned Miss Universe in 1996 and is one of Donald Trump’s many female victims.
In her attempt to steer undecided female voters away from the chauvinistic Trump, Hillary strategically brought up Machado’s story to the world stage:
CLINTON: You know, he tried to switch from looks to stamina. But this is a man who has called women pigs, slobs, and dogs, and someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, who has said … … women don’t deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men. And one of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest. He loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them. And he called this woman “Miss Piggy.” Then he called her “Miss Housekeeping,” because she was Latina. Donald, she has a name…. Her name is Alicia Machado.
Yeah, that definitely won’t help the republican candidate broaden his appeal to women at all. A couple days after the debate Donald couldn’t help but tweet about the Machado subject, which made him look even worse. Check out his controversial message to the Internet below:
How very presidential of him. It’s interesting he has taken this bratty approach to combating Hil when his “temperament” problem is a key issue with independent voters.
Hillary’s response tweet:
Alicia Machado has been on the campaign trail advocating for Clinton. She just became a citizen and is doing everything possible to make sure Clinton gets the women and Latino vote. When asked about her scandalous past in an interview, Machado said that she’s “not a saint” and she does have one, but that doesn’t mean Trump should “demoralize women”.
Even some republicans are repulsed by Donald Trump’s deplorable attitude towards women, even before this whole Machado bomb blew up in his face. He has said many cruel things about women, even going as far as attacking one of his own party’s wive’s – the comment about Ted Cruz’s wife being “ugly”.
We shall see in November if the people of the United States are content with this kind of man holding the most important job in the country and representing our nation.
